FAQs on Immigration Evaluations Made Easy

What is an immigration evaluation?

It's a thorough assessment by a mental health professional aimed at supporting your immigration case. They dive into how you're coping emotionally and socially, and how it all ties into your immigration journey.

Why is an immigration evaluation important?

This evaluation sheds light on your mental health, the impact of any past trauma or adversity, and how these challenges could affect you or your family if you or your family member had to return to their/your country. It's a key piece of evidence that can sway the outcome of your immigration case.

Who can perform an immigration evaluation?

Qualified experts like me, Darcie. I'm a licensed clinical social worker specially trained in immigration evaluations. Only licensed professionals can carry out these assessments, and you should look for one with specific expertise in immigration and mental health.

What types of immigration cases require an evaluation?

They're especially useful for asylum requests, VAWA petitions, U-visa and T-visa applications, cancellation of removal cases, and hardship waivers, among others.

How long does an immigration evaluation take?

Expect to spend about 3 to 4 hours, based on the details of your case. We'll likely meet for one or two sessions to ensure we thoroughly cover everything needed for your report. You may need extra time before our session together to collect any paperwork or documentation that might help develop the final report , the immigration evaluation.

What can I expect during an immigration evaluation?

We'll discuss your personal history, health, family life, experiences in your home country, reasons for immigrating, and any trauma or hardships you've faced. The goal is to get a complete picture of your situation to support your immigration case.

How should I prepare for an immigration evaluation?

Be ready to share your experiences in detail and remember to send any documents that can help illustrate your story, such as medical or legal records before scheduling your visit. Having this information beforehand allows me to prepare more effectively for our meeting. If you are being interviewed, you will be expected to visit with me individually, however, it is sometimes helpful if a family member has a minute to see me before they leave you to it.

Will the information I share during the evaluation remain confidential?

Yes, with the exception that the findings will be included in my report for your legal case. Your shared information is confidential and used solely for bolstering your immigration case.

How much does an immigration evaluation cost?

Please get in touch for pricing details. If you're considering evaluations for other family members too, I may offer a discount for additional assessments.
